Jean "JP" Pierre Brunschwig

Jean Pierre “JP” Brunschwig, age 75, resident of Ocean Springs, died Tuesday, April 28, 2015. He was born in Havana, Cuba and sought asylum in the United States as a political refugee in 1961. JP settled in Houston, Texas, and in 1963 married Nancy Bebeau from Virginia. Several years later he became a naturalized citizen. JP completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Houston and was employed at Baylor College Of Medicine, Houston, in the Dept. of Virology for 15 years in a position of electron microscopy. In 1974 he accepted a position with the University of Miami School of Medicine in Miami, Fl. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Pharmacology and later worked with the Miami Project To Cure Paralysis. On May 31, 2004, the University of Miami expressed its sincere gratitude to him by presenting a plaque in recognition and appreciation for 30 years of devotion, distinguished work and faithful service. He retired in 2005 and moved to Ocean Springs. JP is survived by his wife Nancy, children, Scot and Aurora, grandchildren, Karina, Ross, Jake, and Kim, great-grandchildren, Lacey, Charlie and Fischer, sister, Jacqueline and her husband, Dr. Joaquin Novoa, of Miami, Fl, brother, Gaston and his wife, Diane, of New York City and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Friday, May 1, 2015, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, with a 2:00 pm Memorial Service, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home.
