Joan Patricia (Quick) Haines, age 89, Biloxi resident since 1970, died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family on March 19, 2013. She was born on March 9, 1924 in Kingston, NY. She was of Catholic faith and was a long time member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Biloxi.
Joan graduated Kingston High School, Kingston, NY in 1942; married John Haines on September 26, 1943 in Kingston, NY; and had two daughters, Larraine and Leslie. As a full-time homemaker, loving mother and wife, Mrs. Haines was able to enjoy traveling with her husband and daughters to most of his USAF assignments, including those to Japan and Europe. In 1970, a Civil Service position at Keesler Air Force Base brought them to Biloxi, where Mrs. Haines became an avid women's league bowler at KAFB. She always took great delight in baking, cooking, gardening, making Christmas ornaments from eggshells, and most of all, doting on her grandchildren. Mrs. Haines was a gracious hostess, who loved entertaining relatives, friends and neighbors in her home, until she began her long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mrs. Elizabeth (Nugent) Quick and Edwin Quick. Survivors include her husband, the love of her life for over 70 years, USAF Ret. Lt. Col. John Haines; her two devoted daughters, Larraine (Sheldon) McCloskey, who was her daily caregiver, of Biloxi, MS and Leslie (Mike) Clarke of Knoxville, TN; four grandchildren, Kelly McCloskey (Curt) Moore of Winter Springs, FL; Jaclyn Clarke, Lindsay Clarke, and John Michael Clarke all of Knoxville, TN; brother, Donald (Kaye) Quick of Kingston, NY and sister, Barbara (Bob) Craig of Tillson, NY, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends sincerest appreciation to St. Joseph's Hospice nurse Rhonda and caregiver Yvetta, as well as Home Instead caregivers Norlie and Darlene. Special thanks, also, to Susan and Amber from Comfort Keepers and to Dr. Marion Wainwright for the assistance they gave in caring for our mom.
