Joan C. Loomis

Joan C. Loomis, 88, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015 in Ocean Springs. Mrs. Loomis worked in the Accounting and Finance Office at Keesler AFB, MS, having transferred in from the Accounting and Finance Office in Kadena AFB, Okinawa, Japan. After retirement, she and her husband lived in the French Quarter in New Orleans, where her husband was an artist on Jackson Square. After his death, she was a people greeter at the D’Iberville Walmart for six years where she was affectionately known as “The Hat Lady”. She was a faithful member of the Rodenberg Avenue Church of Christ for over 53 years. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, CMSgt (ret.) Robert L. Loomis of Biloxi; her parents, Charles S. and Belle Mae Conant of Wichita Falls, TX; her mother-in-law, Mary H. Loomis of Ocean Springs; two brothers, R.B. and Ben Conant of Wichita Falls, TX; her sisters, Charlie Mae Neel of Wichita Falls, TX and Virginia Prescott of Crestview, FL; her youngest son, Timothy F. Loomis of Mountain Home, ID; and her grandsons, Timothy F. Loomis, II and Larry Lee Higginbotham of Biloxi, MS. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Higginbotham of Ocean Springs; her sons, Michael P. (Sue) Loomis of Virginia Beach, VA and Robert S. (Barbara) Loomis of Tucson, AZ; her daughter-in-law, Janet Loomis of Mountain Home, ID; her former son-in-law, Larry E. Higginbotham of Janice, MS; and her brother-in-law, Titus Prescott of Crestview, FL. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Special thanks for her care go to Kathryn Cooper and the staff of The Gardens Personnel Care Home in Ocean Springs, MS. Pallbearers will be Michael Loomis, Robert Loomis, Terry Higginbotham, Christopher Loomis, Larry E. Higginbotham and Roque Quezada. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Maxwell Higginbotham and Mason Higginbotham. Funeral Services will be held at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Friends may visit from 11:00 am until service time. A graveside service will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 9:00 am.
