John "Big John" William Harvey

John William Shaw Harvey, age 55, known as "Big John" to his friends, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017, due to cancer. John was born and raised in Gretna, Louisiana, but resided on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for most of the past 30 years. He worked in the hospitality industry as a waiter at several restaurants in New Orleans and Mississippi Gulf Coast, as well as being a Certified Mechanic at several bowling centers in New Orleans, Alabama, and Mississippi. John was so passionate about sports especially bowling, golf, and fishing. He was also on the basketball team of Northwestern State University of Louisiana. He later transferred to the University of New Orleans, where he achieved a BA degree in Business Administration. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patricia Lyons Harvey and Ernest L. Harvey. John's survivors include his siblings, Ernest L. Harvey, Jr. and Patricia Harvey Harris, both of New Orleans. A Celebration of Life for John will be held Sunday, March 26, 2017 at the Croatian American Cultural Center, 159 Maple Street, Biloxi from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Friends, family, neighbors, and lodge members are invited. The family would like to acknowledge the outstanding care given to John by the entire Canon Hospice Staff. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
