John Lee McKelvain, age 86, of Gulfport died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 in Gulfport.
He was born December 16, 1925 in Moran, Texas and had been a resident of Gulfport for 50 years. He was a graduate of Ranger Texas High School and Ranger Junior College,
Ranger , Texas, Washington University, the School of George Warren Brown Social Work, St. Louis, MO, and Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas. He was a charter member of NASW and served 31 years as a social worker for the VA both at Gulfport and Biloxi. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He was an avid golfer and bridge player and a member of the Great Southern Club.
Mr. McKelvain was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Hardie McKelvain and Linnie Mae Andrews; his wife, Edna Jean Morton McKelvain; a son, Mark Alan McKelvain; a sister, Avis McKelvain Preslar; and a brother, J.H. McKelvain and is survived by a son, Ken Morton McKelvain.
The memorial service will be held Friday, July 27, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at Bradford-O’Keefe, 15th Street, Gulfport where friends may visit beginning at 5:00 p.m.
