John “Brioche” Misko, 81, was called home to rest with our Lord on November 1, 2012, All Saints Day.
John will be remembered as a devout Christian of Catholic faith at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Biloxi where he volunteered weekly at Mass. He always had great stories to share from his younger years living on “The Point”. He was the youngest of 11 children, born from hard working Croatian immigrant parents who came to the coast for a life in the shrimping industry. Having never married, John devoted himself to the care of his Mother, Father and sister in their failing years. He shared a very special love and bond with his youngest sister, Frances Lamas, her husband Joe and their children. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Armed Forces where he fought in the front lines of combat in the Korean War. He had been a member of the VFW and Slavonian Benevolent men’s organizations for most of his adult life.
He is preceded in death by his father, George Misko; his mother, Mandelina Pitalo Misko; his brothers, Pete Misko, Albert Misko, Anthony “Tony” Misko, Stephen Misko and Georgio Misko; and his sisters, Lucretia Doljanin, Elizabeth Gutierrez and Antonia Juen.
He is survived by his two sisters, Frances Lamas and Rita Jenkins; countless numbers of nieces and nephews; and his dearest friends, Corky Hire, Herbie Glavin and Tony Radich.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to St. Vincent De Paul c/o St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
A Catholic Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
