Karen Lee Burns (DeVries), age 73, died Wednesday, December 8, in Gulfport, Mississippi.
She was born in Bemidji, Minnesota and was a graduate of Bemidji High School class of 1958. She went on to graduate from Bemidji State College with the class of 1960 earning a degree in Secretarial Science.
She worked in Denver, CO where she met her husband, Louis “Buzzy” Burns, Jr. His employment with Chevron moved them down to Metairie, LA, where Karen spent the following 21 years caring for her husband and their son, Louis Burns III. Buzzy’s retirement brought them to Gulfport in 1992, where they enjoyed boating and numerous activities at the Gulfport Yacht Club. Karen was a delightful woman and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis F. Burns, Jr.; and her parents, John and Marie DeVries.
She is survived by her son, Louis F. Burns, III (Dana) of Houston, TX; her granddaughter, Lillian Claire Burns of League City, TX; her grandson, Lucas Bradley Burns of Houston, TX; her brother, Adrian A. DeVries (Jean), of Puposky, MN; her sister, Jill E. Parson (Charlie), of Puposky, MN; her brother, John M. DeVries (Karen), of E. Gull Lake, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews and their children.
The visitation will be Friday, January 17, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport. At noon, the family and friends will relive their memories of Karen.
