Karen Hill Galloway

Karen Hill Galloway passed away Thursday, May 21. 2015 after a brave two year struggle with lung cancer. A Gulfport native, she was a 1962 graduate of Gulfport High School and a 1966 graduate of Mississippi University for Women, where she was a member of the Silhouette Social Club. Karen taught biology at Kingsbury High School in Memphis for five years before returning to Gulfport. She and Robert Galloway were married July 24, 1971. Karen was a member of First United Methodist Church, Gulfport and the Merry Maskers Carnival Organization, and was active in the Gulfport Junior Auxiliary and the Gulfport School System Parent Teacher Organization. She was predeceased by her parents, Lois and G.W. Hill; and her son, Charles Hill Galloway. She is survived by her loving husband Robert Galloway and daughter Brandon Galloway of Gulfport; her brothers Ken Hill and his sons, Clayton and Cheston of Baton Rouge and Keith Hill, his wife Maida, and their sons, Turner and Jess of LaGrange, Georgia. Growing up Karen helped raise her younger brothers and made many lifetime friends to whom she was a confidant and counselor. Her avocations were her cats, Afghan hounds, Jaguar automobiles and Ole Miss Sports. Karen’s family would like to thank Dr. Pamela Tuli, the Memorial Hospital Oncology Staff, and the nurses and aides of Kare-in-Home Health and Hospice for their loving care the past two years. Services will be at First United Methodist Church, Gulfport at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Gulfport. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to First United Methodist Church, 2301 15th Street, Gulfport, MS 39501, or to the Humane Society of South Mississippi, 2615 25th Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39501.
