Lanier Galloway

Lanier Babington Galloway, 94, died Wednesday, October 3, 2012 in Wiggins. She was born in Franklinton, LA, grew up in Tylertown and was a resident of Gulfport since 1938. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Gulfport where she was involved in United Methodist Women and in all aspects of the church. She was a member of Gulfport Yacht Club and a former member of the Great Southern Country Club. Mrs. Galloway played golf into her seventies and bridge into her nineties. She was a member and former Queen of the Merry Maskers. She was the first female selected to the Grand Jury in Harrison County and was appointed the Foreman of the Grand Jury by the late Judge Leslie Grant. For many years she raised beautiful camellias, which won a number of prizes in arrangements by her friend and neighbor, Betty Throop. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Norma Babington; her husband of 62 years, Charles R. Galloway; a brother, Charles H. Babington; and a sister, Dorothy Babington Jones. Mrs. Galloway is survived by three sons, Robert C. (Karen) Galloway of Gulfport; James B. Galloway of Madison, and John L. (Jeanette) Galloway of Gulfport; seven grandchildren, Brandon Galloway, Charles Galloway, Meredith Yester, Steve (Brook) Galloway, John Watson (Ana Reed) Galloway, Rush Galloway, Joyce Galloway; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held Monday, October 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Gulfport where friends may visit beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport.
