Laz Quave

Laz Quave, Jr. 82, lifelong resident of Biloxi, cast his final throw on Monday, May 1, 2017 in his home, surrounded by family. Laz was born April 19, 1935, to Bernice and Laz Quave, Sr. The son of a former Mayor, Laz lived a full and adventurous life on the Coast, a place he loved dearly. A 1953 graduate of Biloxi High School, Laz went on to study Business at the University of Southern MS, and retired from Ingalls in 1994, after 29 years of service; all the while living his dream and fishing the waters of the Mississippi and Louisiana Gulf Coast. Laz is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn “Cat” Moran Quave, from “the other side of the bay”. Together Laz and Carolyn spent a lifetime of love and happiness in Biloxi building their family and home, overlooking the bayou where he spent his final days. Laz enjoyed breakfast at the Harbor House, fishing the marsh, and the occasional Rum drink with his children, Sonja Jackson and husband Roger, Laz “Rocky” Quave and wife Vicky, Wendy Gruich and husband Joey, and Dwight Quave, all too residents of the Coast. Lovingly called Paw Paw Laz, he is survived by his 9 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren, all who share unforgettable memories of times spent with Laz and Cat under the oak tree behind their home, fishing from his pier, and summer celebrations and fishing trips on his boat, fondly named the Laz-E-Cat. The grandchildren include Justin Jackson (Kristen), Adam Jackson, Ryan Gruich (Haleigh), Cameron Gruich, Lauren Quave, Laz Quave, and Lyn-Elise Quave. His great- grandchildren, Peyton and Anna Reed Jackson and Tripp Leggett will all remember their grandfather as a strong yet compassionate man who instilled in them a love for family and the ability to reel in the perfect catch. Other survivors include brother, Leon Quave and wife Peggy and sister June Nugent, both of Biloxi. Laz was an avid fisherman who shared this passion with his family and friends. He had a rich, wonderful life and will be most remembered for his fiery spirit and love of a good time. The family would like to express their sincerest thanks and gratitude to The SAAD Hospice Service of Biloxi, Dr. Paul Pavlov and Nurse Twy, and family friend, Angie Gruich, for their love, support, and care of the well being of Mr. Quave during his final days. A visitation will be held Thursday, May 4, from 9:30- 11am followed by an 11am Celebration of Life service at Beauvoir United Methodist Church on Pass Road in Biloxi. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
