Lucretia "Lou" Skrnich Broussard

On January 9, 2015, after fulfilling her promise to God and family, the angels came down to take Lucretia (Lou) Skrnich Broussard home to her eternal reward. Lou was born on September 5, 1927 in Biloxi, Mississippi where she remained a lifelong resident dedicating her life to faith, family, fellowship, and service to others. As a devoted member of Saint Michael Catholic Church, Lou served as a Eucharistic Minister and truly loved serving communion to the homebound. She also spent many years rejoicing in faith by singing in the choir and serving as a member of the Parish Council. Lou was a devoted wife to her husband, TeJean. They spent many years supporting the seafood industry, where they enjoyed entertaining family and friends on their beloved “Captain Blood.” Known by many as a gentle and selfless mother, Lou was awarded Mother of The Year by the Biloxi Lions Club in 1983. As an active member of the Slavonian Ladies Auxiliary, Lou very much enjoyed celebrating and sharing her Croatian heritage with her family and friends. Many remember “Mrs. Lou” from her many years of service at Mercy Cross High School cafeteria. Lou was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Neville (TeJean) Broussard; her parents, John and Antonia (Kuljis) Skrnich; father in-law, Louis “Lessiant” and mother in law, Cecile (Hollier) Broussard; brothers, Thomas (Tom) Skrnich, Joseph (Chibby) Skrnich, John (Johnny) Skrnich Jr., Michael (Mikey) Skrnich, and Samuel (Sammy) Skrnich; and, sisters Clara Cosmich, Frances Mason, and Margaret Skrnich. Lou is survived by her six children, Derel Broussard and wife, Hariet (Miller), Rodney Broussard and wife, Bobbie (Hailey), James Broussard, Randall Broussard and wife, Carol (Creel), Kevin Broussard and life-partner, Pam (Bosarge), Stacy Fore and husband, Danny; Sixteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren who knew her as “Nona;” and, her sister Delores (George) Sonnier. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to their brother James who selflessly spent the last five years as his mother’s loving caretaker. In addition, the family would like to extend thanks to the nurses and staff at SAAD’s Home Healthcare; Adeline and Dr. Motakhaveri; Cynthia Fox, Gloria Humble, and their loving family; and, the countless friends who have comforted them during this time. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, 177 First Street, Biloxi. Friends and family may visit beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Biloxi National Cemetery. Following interment, a Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family at the Slavonian Lodge, 159 Maple Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Michael Life Center Building Fund, 177 First Street, Biloxi, Mississippi 39530. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
