Madeline “Rita” Misko Jenkins, 93, of Biloxi, died Saturday, May 16, 2015. Rita was born and raised on Cedar Street located on Point Cadet in Biloxi. Ms. Jenkins lived in Biloxi most of her life but during her husband’s military career she lived in different cities and countries. While stationed in Germany, Rita and her family traveled to Italy, France, Holland and Yugoslavia where they visited her parent’s birthplace. In 1961 she returned to Biloxi where she lived out the rest of her life. She was of the Catholic faith and grew up in St. Michael Parish and later became a member of Nativity BVM. Rita was of Yugoslavian heritage, village of Bobovisce on the island of Brac, and was a member of the Slavonian Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Biloxi Women’s Club, Keesler Officers Club and was a dedicated poll worker for box three in Biloxi for many years. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, George A. Misko and Madeline (Mandelina) Pitalo Misko; six brothers, Anthony “Hoss”, Albert, Steve, George, Jr., Peter and John “Brioche” Misko; three sisters, Lucretia Doljanin, Elizabeth Gutierrez and Antonia Juen; her grandson, Clinton Burns; and the father of her children, C.D. Jenkins. She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia “Pat” Burns and Georgia Menhennett, and her son, Randy (Donna) Jenkins, all of Biloxi; one sister, Frances (Joe) Lamas of Biloxi; four grandchildren, Steve Hankins, Jr. and Zak Hankins and Christopher Jenkins all of Biloxi and Casey Burns (Joey) Lee of Madison, MS; two great-grandchildren, Gracie Hankins of Biloxi and Ginger Lee of Madison, MS; and former in-laws, Steve Burns, Steve Hankins, Sr., Rick Menhennett and Marisa Hankins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Biloxi on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Friends may visit from 12:00 pm until service time. Entombment will follow at Biloxi City Cemetery. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
