Malcolm Otis Fountain of D’Iberville, MS passed away on Friday, August 22, 2014.
Malcolm was a lifelong resident of Back Bay in D’Iberville and many knew daddy as Pete – The Rascal – and dad also knew everybody as Rascal or Bo, only because he was the The Rascal.
Malcolm worked and also retired from Harrison County Road Department in D’Iberville. There is not one person on Back Bay who didn’t know who Malcolm Fountain was.
Dad loved his sports and football was his sport of choice. He also loved the water, and after Hurricane Katrina hit and he had to move to north Ocean Springs, this is when dad’s whole world changed. The disaster not only took away his home, but also robbed dad of his mind. He used to sit on the porch and he would tell me he just wanted to live back where he could see the mullet jump again. That never happened and dad has been a resident of Greenbrier nursing home since February 2011.
Malcolm is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Dottie) Fountain; his daughter, Dianne Fountain; grandson, Keith A. Derouen, Jr.; parents, Albert and Augustine Fountain; and brothers, Wallace and Charles Fountain.
Survivors include daughters, Iris (Keith) Derouen, June (Terry) Drone, Vicki (Mike)) Smith and Joy (Keith) Lanford; sister, Joyce Meyers; brothers, John (Neldine), Elvin (Donna), Gilbert and Judge Albert (Denise) Fountain; grandson that dad raised, Jeremi Winterstein; granddaughter dad raised, Daralyn Marie Hymel; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Many thanks to the staff of Greenbriar Nursing Home for their support, love and care they gave to our dad. They’ve been absolutely wonderful to our dad since he became a patient in February 2011.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., where friends may visit from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass. Interment will follow at Fountain Cemetery in D’Iberville.
The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of Arrangements.
