Mr. Manuel L. Olavarria, age 79, left this earthy part of his journey on Saturday, May 23, 2015.
Manuel attended the Esuela Industrial for Naval Construction and then studied at Santa Maria University in Chile. He worked as an Oceanic Topographer in the Institute Hydrography in the Navy and was a military teacher in the Escuela de Infranteria Marina. After 25 years, he retired from Civil Service from the Navy in Chile. He was an avid tennis player and rode his bicycle everywhere he went. His love for his family and nature showed in everything he did. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends here in the States as well as all his family and friends in Chile.
Manuel is preceded in death by his parents, Liborio Olavarria and Guillermina Montero; brother, Julio Montero; sister, Juana Olavarria; and daughter-in-law, Aury Oyarce (Olavarria).
So a mild wind passes thru our mist, one whom you must really listen to hear, a quiet mighty soul who kept it simple… family, work and friends. Full, happy and whole, he will be deeply missed and forever loved.
He leaves behind the love of his life and wife of 52 years, Isabel; son, Manuel; daughter, Ximena McCarthy (Jackie); six grandchildren, Paulo, Xaviera, Catalina, Cezar, John Thomas and Karla; sister, Elena Olavarria (Valdez); brother, Victor Eduardo Olavarria; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. Friends may visit one hour prior. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
