Ria Gensert, age 89, of Biloxi, died Monday, January 7, 2013.
Ria was born in Munich, Germany and lived there until 1953 when she moved to the Gulf Coast with her husband and daughter. In 1965 she and her husband became owner and operator of Popps Ferry Fish Camp where she delighted patrons for over 40 years.
She is most remembered for her festive free spirit, generosity, love of the water and most notably, her compassion for animals.
Ria is preceded in death by her first husband, Lee Slaughter.
Her survivors include her devoted husband of 34 years, Monroe “Gunner” Gensert; daughter, Renee Malone; grandchildren, Danielle and Sean Malone; and great-grandchildren, Leigha, Loggan, Devon and Alyssa.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Pass Road Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Floral Hill Memorial Gardens at 3:30 p.m.
