Marie Rose Ehret

Marie Rose Ehret (Granny), of Pass Christian, MS died on April 6, 2015 in Gulfport, MS at the age of 81. Rose is survived by her children, Earl Ehret Jr. (Brenda Ehret) of Jupiter, FL, Gregory Ehret (Jeannette Ehret), of Poplarville, MS and Glen Ehret of Pass Christian, MS; her two grandchildren, Nell Handley (Stephen Handley) of Parkland, FL and Earl Ehret III of Jupiter, FL; and her two great-grandchildren, Danica Handley and Trey Handley. She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl George Ehret of Pass Christian, MS. Rose and Earl George were married (for 57 years) in Crown Point, Louisiana where their three boys were born. They lived the last 30 years in Pass Christian, MS where they spent their retirement years enjoying their grandchildren and running a crabbing business. Rose spent much of her time picking pound after pound of crabmeat from the crabs that her husband caught each day. She was probably best known for her cooking. Everyone knew Rose by her food. Cooking brought her true joy. Rose’s two favorite things in life; family and cooking. Cooking for friends and family was where she was truly was her happiest. It was no secret that being called to the Ehret house for a service call was the Holy Grail because they knew that they were going to get a huge serving of gumbo or jambalaya or shrimp étouffée or whatever else Rose was serving up that day. You didn’t come to Rose Ehret’s house and not get fed. That was where she found the most joy, in serving others… literally and figuratively. She would feed you the best seafood on the gulf coast happily and send you on your way with a belly full of happiness and an earful of wisdom. She will be missed greatly by her family and all those she touched daily. She was truly a light unto this world. Rose passed away peacefully at Gulfport Memorial Hospital. At Rose’s request, no services will be held and she will be cremated at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport, MS. The family is grateful for the condolences.
