Mary Frances Dunlap

Mary Frances Dunlap Callahan, Mimi, to family and friends, age 90, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013 after an extended struggle with Alzheimer’s. She was born September 4, 1923 to William Ezra and Alice Mae Dunlap in Homer, LA. She and her husband of 67 years, John L. “Jack” Callahan, lived in Jackson, MS, for 55 years before moving to Ocean Springs, MS, in 2006. Mary was a lovely person, the epitome of kindness, silly and fun; she made people smile and brought joy to their hearts. Mary was a rock of stability to her family, a dedicated, loving wife, mother and GrandMimi. She was the light of our lives and the center of our family. She will be missed more than mere words can express. Mary is survived by her husband, John “Jack” Callahan; son, Michael John Callahan and his wife, Teresa Renee; daughters, Kathryn Christine McClure and her husband, Dwight, Alice Irene Gabriel, Mary Maureen Mixon and her husband, Kit, and Leta Teresa Callahan and her husband, Ben Douglas; grandchildren, Diana Gabriel, Sarah Mixon Kelley and her husband, Ryan, William Gabriel, Erin Callahan, Em Douglas, Hannah Douglas and Molly Douglas; and great-grandchildren, Cole, Amelia and Charlotte Kelley. The family greatly appreciates the loving care given to Mimi by the staff at The Gardens and by Camellia Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held Monday, December 23, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at The Gardens, 1260 Ocean Springs Rd, Ocean Springs, MS.; a reception will be held immediately afterwards. Her interment will be in January at the Biloxi National Cemetery. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
