“Bette” Lakatos, 93, died in Gulfport, Mississippi on Thursday, February 13, 2014. Bette was the third of eleven children. She was a proud resident of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport having served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II. Bette was a talented cake decorator, upholsterer, cook, gardener, and seamstress. Through the years she dedicated much of her time and talents leading and teaching youth and children ministries. Most importantly she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and follower of Jesus Christ.
Bette is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Andrew Lakatos. Survivors include two daughters, Judy (David) Lukins and Andrea Lohrer of Huntsville, Alabama; a son, Roger (Phyllis) Lakatos of Charlotte, North Carolina; her four grandchildren, Josiah Evans, Lindsay (Paul) Killian, Lori (Heathe) Stecklein, and Bethany Lakatos; and five great grandchildren, David Killian, Kendal Killian, Addison Killian, Lukin Stecklein and Hayden Stecklein. Additionally, Bette is survived by five siblings, special nephew Mike Longwell and countless friends in Huntsville and Gulfport.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at the Armed Forces Retirement Home Chapel in Gulfport followed by the Funeral Service at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow with Military Honors at Biloxi National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th St. Gulfport is in charge of Arrangements.
