Mary Whittington Pitalo, a lifelong native of Biloxi and resident of Ocean Springs, left this world on August 22, 2015. Born on November 24, 1931, she was 83 years old.
Mary was a 1949 graduate of Biloxi High School. She attended Draughon's Business College in Jackson, Mississippi where she received a technical business degree in 1950. After marrying, she attended Perkinston Jr. College where she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honorary Society. Mary worked as an administrative assistant for the Civil Service and at Keesler Air Force Base for 25 years and retired in 1996. Additionally, she was a professional singer and performed at popular night spots around the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Peter J. Pitalo; her mother, Mildred K. Whittington; and her father, Jesse E. Whittington, all of Biloxi.
Mary’s survivors include her daughters; Laura Pitalo Parker of Biloxi and Rebecca Pitalo Parker (Chuck) of Ocean Springs; her grandchildren, Erin Parker Donovan, Jessica Parker Brown (Logan), Claire V. Parker, Daniel O. McKee and Mary C. Parker. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters, Earlene Elliott and Janet K. Owen; her brother, James W. Whittington (Judy); and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at Ocean Springs Hospital, Greenbriar Nursing Center Rehab, The Residence at Bay Cove and the Hospice of Light for their loving care and support.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 with a 10:00 am funeral service on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park.
