Matilda Rosalee Smolcich Barry, age 95, died Sunday, January 18, 2015 in Jackson, MS.
Although she had been living with her son in Jackson for several years, her heart was always on Biloxi’s Point Cadet. Only Hurricane Katrina could have displaced her from her beloved Oak Street where she raised her family and lived happily for eighty-five years.
Her family and friends call her “Tee.” Her wealth could never be determined by monetary measures, but only by her many close friends and family. Her greatest joy was gathering family and friends around her kitchen table for a sumptuous meal always followed by pound cake.
Matilda is survived by her son, Raymond and daughter-in-law, Joan; daughter, Theresa and son-in-law, Marc Bondi; sister, Melrita and brother-in-law, Marvin Raesner; sisters-in-law, Patsy and Elba Smolcich; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 12pm. Friends may visit from 11-12pm. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
