Myra Moore “Bunch” Levi, age 95, of Ocean Springs, died peacefully at her home on the evening of Thursday, September 6, 2012.
She was born to the late Dempsey C. and Ida M. Moore on June 10, 1917, in Louisville, Mississippi, “In the shadow of Nanih Waiya mound,” as she often expressed. Myra received her RN Degree from Turo Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1939. She became the first teacher of practical Nursing at Perkinston Jr. College. She married the late Dr. Sam Levi in 1940 and they lived together in New Orleans and Long Beach before moving to their present home in Ocean Springs in 1954.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Cyril, Aubrey, Henry, Sonny Boy and Joel Moore; two sisters, Kittye Harris and Cecile Moore and her lifelong friend, Bobbye McAnally.
"Bunchie” (note “Bunch” earlier), will be lovingly remembered by two sons, Dempsey and his wife, Sandra; Joel and his wife, Gloria; her brother Dr. Paul M. Moore and sister, Margie Kadue. Myra leaves five grandchildren, Holly Levi-Powell and husband, Johnnie Powell; Kelly Levi and wife Kathryn (Dr. Sigurnjak); Clark Levi and wife, Bonnie Miles; Joel G. Levi; Bryan Levi and six great grandchildren.
Her last years were made far more comfortable by loving caregiver, Janice Hall.
Myra loved her Ocean Springs home and community of 58 years where she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Ocean Springs Garden Club, the 1699 Society and Kings Daughters.
Visitation will be on Monday, September 10, 2012, from 9:30 am until 11:00 am, with an 11:00 am church service, all at the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs. Burial will follow in Crestlawn Memorial Park.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs.
The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
