Paul “Jaybird” Hiers, 65, of Biloxi, died Saturday, May 24, 2014 in Pascagoula.
Mr. Hiers worked as a Foreman at Biloxi Prestress for many years. He also worked for Pat Salmon & Sons as a truck driver. Mr. Hiers was of the Baptist Faith.
He is preceded in death by his father, Paul Hiers; his brother, Johnny Hiers; and his sister, Jan Hiers.
Mr. Hiers is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Elaine Hiers; his sons, Shannon Hiers (Karen) and Chad Hiers (Jenny); his grandchildren, Courtney Hiers, Corey Hiers, Justin Hiers, Austin Hiers, Carl Thompson, Michaela Thompson, Austin Smith and Wesley Smith; his great-granddaughter, Evie Dahl; his mother, Bernice Hiers; his brothers, Jimmy Hiers (Patsy) and Jerry Hiers (Jackie); his sisters, Judy Tompkins (Herschel), Joyce Blalock and Janet “Mutt” Flores (Ronnie); and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to Coastal Mississippi Healthcare Fund which is a non-profit organization that helps cancer patients and employees of Singing River Health Systems who are in need of financial assistance.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a Funeral Service on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 10:00 am, with Rev. Bill Renick officiating, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. Interment will follow at D’Iberville Memorial Park.
Pall Bearers will be Justin Hiers, Austin Smith, Carl Thompson, Lee Shiflett, Steve Searcy, Jerry Hiers, Corey Hiers and Michael “Tracy” Shiflett. Honorary Pall Bearer will be Wesley Smith.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Singing River Health Systems for the world class services Mr. Hiers received for the past three years. Special thanks to Dr. Brian Persing and his staff at the Regional Cancer Center.
