Penelope "Penny" Law

Penelope “Penny” Blair Hillyer Law passed on to her heavenly reward on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. Penny was the loving wife of Dr. Victor J. Law for 43 years and is survived by him; their sons, Preston and Haywood (Sandy); their daughter, Victoria (Vicki); their daughter-in-law, Josephine; her brother, Carter Sinclair (Pat) Hillyer; and two grandchildren, Blake and CeCe. Penny was born in New Orleans on June 26, 1942 and lived in Pass Christian, MS for most of her childhood. She attended Pass Christian High School and Ashley Hall Boarding School in Charleston, SC from which she graduated in 1960. She attended Newcomb College for two years. In 1971, she married Dr. Victor J. Law and they resided in Harahan and River Ridge, LA until recently when they moved to Pass Christian, MS. Victor and Penny met on the Tulane University campus in 1969. They had a long and loving relationship and she was so very proud of her family. Her grandchildren called her MaMaw, which she loved. Penny was a free spirit who lived life her own way. She had no fear of death and spoke of it openly. As a child, she had an “out of body” experience while critically ill. She always said that she knew exactly where she was going when she died and it was so beautiful there. She will be missed but her body just wore out and her family and friends are happy that she has gone on to where she knew she would go. The family says, “love you whole wide universe, Mom. We will be with you again when we get there.” Penny loved animals, especially dogs and horses. She once kept 22 stray dogs in her yard and found good homes for all of them. She would be pleased that, in lieu of flowers, you send contributions to the Looziana Basset Rescue organization at www.loozianabassetrescue.org Services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 125 Church Street, Pass Christian, MS 39571 at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2015. Interment will be at Live Oak Cemetery. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.
