Phillip W. Jarrell

Phillip W. Jarrell, age 54, of Gulfport, MS passed away March 4, 2014. Phil was born August 25, 1959 in Columbia, MS and was raised in Kokomo, MS. He was a loving, caring father to his twin daughters. Phil was a man of strong faith, committed to God and his family, and honored both. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Gulfport since 1989, where he served on various boards and committees. He was a graduate of West Marion High School, the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Business Administration, and the University of Mississippi Law School. After law school, he worked for Shell Oil Co. in Texas and California as a land representative. In 1988, he moved to Gulfport, where he began work at Dukes, Dukes, Keating, & Faneca as an associate. He worked at Dukes continuously since then, until becoming a shareholder and, more recently, a director. In his early days at the law firm, he defended the sheriff’s department, but mainly focused on defending employers in worker’s compensation. Phil became AV rated in Workers Compensation (the highest available rating) by the preeminent attorney rating service. He served on the Employment Law Committee of the International Association of Defense Counsel. He was also active with the Workers Compensation Sections of the Mississippi Bar and the Defense Research Institute. He was survived by his daughters, Ashley Jarrell and Emily Jarrell, and their mother Jana Jarrell; his Mother, Nan Jarrell, and his brother, Ken Jarrell. He was predeceased by his father Bennie Hugh Jarrell, and his beloved companion, Nick, his Scottish terrier. The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Gulfport at 12:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at Kokomo Cemetery in Kokomo, MS. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.
