Rebecca Gilbert always had a fondness for the 1960’s. She could always be seen looking at tie dye fashions, lava lamps, and peace signs. Those who knew and loved her know what that decade and herself had in common and that was love.
Love is what drove Rebecca.
Love and her devotion to others is the reason why she would find employment helping others in nursing homes, child care facilities, and the Women’s Center. Love is why her favorite past time was calling her friends and family just to check up on them. Love is why she would selflessly volunteer herself to help those in need.
Love is why we will miss her.
Rebecca truly loved the simple pleasures in life. She would often be found at the beach to people watch, the thrift store looking for a bargain, or the farmer’s market looking for the perfect ripened tomato for her sandwiches.
Above all else; Rebecca loved her family. Nothing brought her more joy than to spend time with them.
Rebecca passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 1, 2013.
She will always be remembered for the sacrifices and the love she gave to us all. We just know she is looking down upon us with angels; smiling from one ear to the next as she points out her family with pride asking, “Aren’t they just precious?”
Rebecca is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Gilbert, Sr. She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Frazier; her sister, Susan Frazier; children, Sheree (Jeremy) Sharp, JR Gilbert, and Barbara (Wallace) Phelps; her grandchildren, Hannah, Danielle, Shelly, CJ, Ethan, Drake, Alex, Tristan, and Savannah; and her great grandchild RaeLynn as well as many close friends she viewed as family.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
