Robert A. “Short Story” Compton, 65, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2013.
He was born in Biloxi, where he remained a lifelong resident. Rob was a United States Navy veteran who served three tours in Vietnam. He received a Purple Heart for injuries sustained while serving with the River Rats in the Mekong Delta as well as numerous other commendations and medals. Rob was a crew boat Captain within the oil industry. He also worked in the family businesses, Compton’s Electric Company and Happy Landing Chandeleur Charters. Rob was the co-founder of the Asgard Motorcycle Club and he was a fixture at the Poticaw Fishing Camp, fondly known as the “The Pirate”.
Rob was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Biggy Compton.
He is survived by his sisters, Kim (John) Aflague and Kit (Bali) Smith; brothers, John W. (Gloria) Compton, Jr., Thomas R. (Margaret) Compton, and Mark S. (Vicki) Compton; 11 nieces and nephews, 8 great nieces and nephews and 1 great-great nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe, where friends may visit an hour and a half before service time. Burial will follow at Southern Memorial Park.
