Roland Phillip Wescovich

Roland Phillip Wescovich, 83, peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2014 with his family by his side. Dad proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. He served aboard the USS Bayfield APA33 as a boatswain mate and received several battle ribbons. He enjoyed attending the Bayfield Ships reunion in recent years to “hang out with his buddies”. He was proud of his Point Cadet heritage and was a commercial fisherman by trade. Throughout his life he had numerous shrimp boats with the most recent being the “Jerry W.” He owned and operated it for 20 years. Dad was affectionately known as “Hooks” by his longtime shrimping buddies and always had a good story about the old days to tell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent John Wescovich and Louise Saujon Wescovich; his first wife of ten years, Jackie; his second wife of 39 years, Lois King Wescovich; his brother, Alton “Son” Wescovich; his sister, Judy Wescovich; and his son, Roland, Jr. He will be sadly missed by many, including his daughters, Linda (Veryl) Cannette, Susan Summerlin, Cheryl (Phil) Harris, Phyllis (Rocky) Miller and Jeannie (Tony) Rosetti; his son, Joey (Tammy) Wescovich. He is also survived by his brothers, Wallace “Red” (Myrna) Wescovich and Douglas (Jackie) Wescovich; and his sister, Lorraine (Jack) Murrell. Dad’s true “Pride and Joy” was his grandchildren, Tommy (Samantha), Julie, Laura (James), Jason (Rachel), Paul, Amy, Brian, Laura (Joe), Jana (Eric), Summer (Chris), Anthony (Amanda), Nicholas, Jordan and Lindsey; and his great-grandchildren, Brooke, Austin, Sarah, Payton,Dylan, Mathew, Tyler, Alyshia, Eliza, Royce, Gaige, Brayden, Jacee, Kaylin, Eli and Abram. The family would like to thank the nurses, staff and aids of Sunplex Subacute Center and the nurses and staff of Community and Gentiva Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 12:00 pm. Friends may visit from 10:30 am until mass time. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eric Dillard, Paul Cannette, Jason Harris, Anthony Rosetti, Nicolas Rosetti and Brian Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Darney Derouen, Dewayne Vassalli and Jared Rosetti. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
