Rose Gollotte

Born January 23, 1939, the fourth of seven children, to Elphege and Gertrude Boudoin in New Orleans,LA and our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed from this life on Friday, December 5th, 2014 at the age of 75. When the gates of heaven were opened to our mother, all her beloved family members that have passed over the years were there waiting for their most beloved Rose. Father and mother Elphase and Gertrude, first husband, first love and and father of her two children Lester Becnel, second husband, forever love, and sweetheart Roy Gollotte, daughter Bridget Becnel, grandson Andrew Becnel, great grandson Tyler Cerise, sisters Edith Vampran, Evelia Abadie, Rita LaMartinaire, Lillian Savoie and brother Ujie Boudoin are all once again united in God’s Kingdom. Moving from Metairie, LA to Biloxi in 1970, our mother began her career at the Broadwater Beach Hotel as a front desk clerk where she was trained by Floyd Gerald, who became a dear, lifelong friend. Moving upstairs to the accounting office our mother spent her last years at the Broadwater as accounts receivable clerk and keeper of all petty cash accounts. Everyone working at the hotel and marina knew and loved “Miss Rose”. Upon retiring after working at the Broadwater Hotel for 30 years our mother found her true calling and one that brought her great joy; being a care-giver, companion and friend to two marvelous women. For several years our mother was caregiver for Mrs Verta Lee Swetman. They quickly became friends and the years they spent together were filled with laughter, friendship, love and entertaining friends that included bishops, priests, senators, members of congress and of the court system. After the passing of her beloved friend, Mrs. Verta Lee, our mother soon found her days filled with the sweet companionship of Mrs. Ethelyn Swan. Another dear and lasting friendship was born, along with good coffee, quiet conversation and the excitement of watching the deer come to feed and wander about Mrs. Swan’s property. After an accident that left her with limited use of her left arm and the unexpected death of her daughter, Bridget, our mother decided it was finally time to fully retire. So, leaving her sweet neighbor and friend Mrs. Ann Potter our mother moved into Santa Maria Del Mar Apartments in Biloxi, where new friendships were formed. Our mother never met a stranger and her heart was always open and ready to let new people into her life. Our mother was a shining example of faith, courage, grace, strength, kindness, forgiveness and love. All of us that she leaves behind will sing her praises for the rest of our lives. Left to carry on and live out her legacy of love are her most beloved and only son Randy Becnel, daughter-in-law Kathy and the sunshine of her heart and days, grandson Kevin Becnel along with his wife Megan and two great grandchildren Aiden and Evelyn (Evie Grace) who will grow up calling “You are my Sunshine”, Grandma’s Song. Our mother’s other daughters who came not from her body, but grew deep within her heart; Roylene Gollotte Hahn (Larry), Cindy Gollotte Cerise (Marsh), Pam Gollotte, Julie Gollotte Zarba (Ronnie) and Lecia Gollotte Rizzo (Tommy) know that once again mom dances with her sweetheart. Left to cherish memories of dying eggs for Easter egg hunts, crabbing and tracking sand from the beach throughout the house are her beloved grandchildren; Shelly Hahn Geiling (Kevin), Aimee Cerise French (Steve), Brian Hahn , Jason Cerise (Erin), Paul Cerise (Julie), Amanda Cerise Lagarde (Jeffrey), Matthew Zarba, Marissa Zarba Currier (Todd), Kevin Rizzo (Nicole), Ryan Rizzo and Lauren Rizzo. There are 14 great grandchildren to hear all the stories about MawMaw Rose; Maddie, Payton, Ava, Parker, Carter, Claire, Katie, Emma, Hayden, Henry, Harrison, Abigale, Meredith and Carson. A remaining sister Alice Bennett Robichaux will hold fast to all the love and memories of her beautiful sister Rose. There are so many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews who will love their Aunt Rose forever and trade stories of “Remember when…”.
