Rosemary Provenza Henrion

Rosemary Provenza Henrion died at her residence in Pass Christian on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. A psychiatric nurse, many years of her career were at Gulfport’s VA Hospital working with Dr. James Crumbough, chief of psychiatric services. Among the many honors and awards related to her nursing career, she was especially grateful to have served as president of the Mississippi Board of Nursing, 1976-1978. Mrs. Henrion held the Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas, Master of Education degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and the Master of Science degree in Nursing from Vanderbilt University. A Clinical Diplomate in Viktor Frankl’s Logotherapy, she considered a highlight of her career having studied with Viktor Frank, author of the best seller Man’s Search for Meaning. Having survived the Nazi prison camps, Frankl developed his theory of psychotherapy known as Logotherapy which emphasizes that the one thing that cannot be taken away from mankind is our freedom to choose how we will respond to the circumstances of our life. For more than 25 years, Rosemary Henrion served on the International Board of Directors of the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy. A widely sought after keynote speaker, Rosemary Henrion had spoken for scientific conferences throughout the United States as well as Argentina, Italy, Austria, Canada, South Africa and China. Curriculum material to which she contributed some of her own research is now being taught online in more than 40 nations. The Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy will be establishing an award to be presented at each of the Institute’s future, biennial World Congresses to be named the Rosemary Henrion Memorial Award for Achieving Excellence in Education. Mrs. Henrion is survived by her son Albert Joseph Henrion, Jr.; two brothers, Tony Provenza of Greenville, MS and Sam Provenza of Oxford, MS. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Joseph Henrion an Air Force pilot who was killed March 16, 1960 near Armatrice, Italy when their son was two months old. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery. She was also preceded in death by her parents Vincent and Camille Provenza, brothers Vincent Provenza, Jr., twin Robert Provenza and John Provneza, sisters Josephine Hambacher and Sarah Provenza. She was of the Catholic faith. Service with be held on Saturday, April 12th at Holy Family Parish Church on Menge Avenue in Pass Christian. Visitation at 9 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10am. Donations can be made to Holy Family Church, 22342 Evangeline Road, Pass Christian, MS 39571 or any charity of your choice.
