Roy Leon Sumrall, age 79 of Ocean Springs passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at his home. He was born to the late William Leon Sumrall, and Gladys Ray (Nix) Sumrall in Montrose, MS. Roy Sumrall was a longtime resident of Ocean Springs. He was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. He devoted his life to his family, and to his faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Mr. Sumrall had achieved his high school G.E.D. and graduated from Jefferson Davis Community College. Retiring as a TSGT, he was a well decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, having earned several awards including the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Meritorious Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Air Force Longevity Service Award with Three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters. Mr. Sumrall’s military career concluded on March 1st, 1976, retiring after 20 years of honorable service. Following his service to our country, Mr. Sumrall pursued a career as an electrician for Galle Electric, and the Ocean Springs School System, retiring in 2001. Mr. Sumrall will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, and all who had the pleasure to know him. Mr. Sumrall was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Della Fay Sumrall, his sisters, Nan Rainey, Ann Maddox, and Betty McLaney; and his son-in-law, Gene Danley Sr. Left to mourn his passing, he is survived by his daughters, Tina Sumrall Danley, Nina Sumrall, and Dina Sumrall Brosh and her husband Larry Brosh; son, Roy “Rusty” Sumrall and his wife Karen Sumrall; grandchildren, Ashley Sumrall, Grace Sumrall Duric and her husband Dejan Duric, Shane Sumrall, Michael McClellan, Bryan McClellan, Cory Toche, Gene Danley Jr., and Chase Danley; great-grandchildren, Bryleigh Danley, Alea Danley, Cooper Catchot, and Sophie Catchot; and siblings, Gwen Johnson and William “Bill” Sumrall. Friends may visit at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home from 11:00 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. on Friday, April 6, 2018. A funeral service will be held in the chapel at 12:30 P.M., followed by interment in Biloxi National Cemetery at 1:30 P.M.
