Sarah Jane Butler Cuevas

Sarah Jane Butler Cuevas, age 83, died Thursday, February 26, 2015 in Gulfport. Sarah was a member of Saucier Holiness Church for 33 years. During those years she served in many capacities. Mom loved visiting the sick in the hospital and nursing homes; cooking food for workdays at church and dinners on the ground. She helped with the food pantry and at Christmas helped make and deliver food baskets to the needy. She even sang in the church choir. Mom loved everybody and everybody loved her. When her health started failing she would get on the phone and check on the sick. If you needed prayer she was a great prayer warrior and she loved the Lord. The family was dearly loved by Mom and she was never too busy to listen to our problems and give us good advice. Mom always let us know how much she loved us daily. She was straight to the point and we always knew where she stood. Advice was given to us, whether we agreed or not, but it was done with love. Her words were spoken “Serve God and He will take care of everything”. Our Mom was the greatest example of a good Christian woman. Mom we are going to miss you but you will not be forgotten. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Crayton John Cuevas; a son, Crayton Eugene Cuevas; sisters, Clyde Mae Overstreet, Betty Daniels, Edith Cuevas, and Shirley Prevost. She is survived by her children, Gladys (Edwin) Duncan, Barbara (Ernie) Waller, Shirlene (David) Brown, Kathy (Jerry) Lee, Janet (Rex) Bosarge all of Saucier, Susan (Johnny) Bond of Thibodeaux, LA; Terry (Leslye) Cuevas of Perkinston; a brother, Eber Butler of Texas; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and eight great great-grandchildren; and honorary daughter and friend, Evelyn Cuevas of Gulfport. The funeral service is Monday, March 2, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Saucier Holiness Church where friends may visit beginning at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Rouse Cemetery in Saucier.
