Scottlene "Scottie" Bond Manuel, 83, passed away peacefully April 7, 2014 in Ocean Springs.
Mrs. Manuel was born in the Deep Creek community in Perry County and was a resident of Ocean Springs for 44 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs, serving the Lord through the years by singing in the choir and teaching children in Sunday School. In her younger years, she played basketball and bowled in a league in Biloxi. Fiercely competitive, she wanted to win every board game she played with her grandchildren. She was a football fan and enjoyed watching baseball. She was meticulous in keeping her yard, mowing with a push mower two or three times a week and not allowing anyone to do it for her. She devoted her time to her family as a wife, mother and grandmother. She was found with a Bible verse beside her, "Where will my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth" (Psalm 121).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott and Carrie Bond; husband, Harold N. Manuel, Sr.; a son, Jeffery Scott Manuel; and a sister, Lucille York.
She is survived by two sons, Harold N. Manuel, Jr. and wife, Sherri, of Westerly, RI; and Dr. Richard Keith Manuel, Sr. and wife, Wendy, of Pineville, LA; sisters, Lois Sanford, Verna Smith, and Bessie Garraway; a brother, Avon Bond; and grandchildren, Brent Manuel, Bo Brumble, Michael Manuel, Keith Manuel, Jr., Jeremy Manuel, and Hannah Manuel.
Services will be held Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Friends may visit two hours prior. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.
