Sharon “Peaches” Baygents, age 70, and a lifelong resident of D’Iberville, passed away surrounded by her loving family and friends on Saturday, June 14, 2014 after a short battle with cancer.
Peaches graduated from D’Iberville High School in 1961, where she played basketball and was a cheerleader. Many of her lifelong friends were still a major part in her journey of life. Peaches served one year as Queen of the D’Iberville Carnival Association. She believed in living life to the fullest. Peaches was of the Methodist faith. She was employed in several marketplaces such as Delchamps, Jitney Jungle, Big Star, Piggly Wiggly and Dollar General. She also worked with her sister Lora as an assistant at Shear Power Hair Salon for many years before becoming a caregiver for the elderly. Peaches will be missed by all who knew her, especially her loving cats, Fraidy Cat and Snickers.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell Baygents; her father, Warren “Buddy McMillian; her mother and step-father, Verna Parker Parrett and Emmett “Buddy” Parrett; and her grandparents, Winifred and Rayford McMillian.
Her survivors include her children, Julie Cox Williamson (Mike), Larry Thompson and David Thompson (Holly) all of D’Iberville; her step-children, Chris Cox of Byhalia, MS, Cindy Cox Brown of Senatobia, MS, Rufus W. Baygents of Lansing, IL and Tina B. Singer of Jacksonville, AR; sixteen grandchildren, Gregorie, Rachel, Raeven, Amy, Keith, Michael, Jessica, Kristina, Kristeena, Brandon, Brent, Emily, Megan, and Kevin; fifteen great-grandchildren; and her sisters, June Moran, Lora Jean Nichols (Ed) and Joy Johnson (Paul).
The family would like to thank Peaches’ caregivers, Johnnie Fayard, Lisa Jenkins and Stacey Hessler for their daily love and care. Special thanks to Dr. Evie Magiros and staff of Coast Cardiovascular Consultants, Dr. Karen Mullen and Dr. Olivia Hightower, who provided excellent care to Peaches during her short but courageous battle with Lung Cancer. The family would also like to thank Gentiva Hospice of Biloxi and SAAD’s Home Health Care of D’Iberville.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a 2:00 pm service on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 all at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Biloxi City Cemetery. The family would like invite friends to a gathering at Peaches’ home after the services.
