Shirley Theresa Usey Puzz

Shirley Theresa Usey Puzz lost her long battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia on Sunday, May 13, 2018. Shirley was born March 31, 1932 in Biloxi and was a lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast. When we think of her, we will remember her as a thoughtful, kind, caring, generous and loving person.

Shirley retired in 1994 with 24 years of service from the Harrison County School System as the cafeteria manager at D’Iberville Elementary School. She was a member of both St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Woolmarket and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D’Iberville. Until her illness, she was a longtime member of the North Biloxi Moose Lodge. Mardi Gras was her favorite time of the year. Shirley liked to party and have a good time.

Shirley was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Andrew Carl Puzz; her parents, Rob and Marie (Sadowski) Usey; her son-in-law, Edward Paul Lynch, Sr.; and her grandson, Edward Paul Lynch, Jr.

Shirley is survived by four daughters, Ann (Joe) Joachim of Woolmarket, MS, Diane (Paul) Vallo of Ocean Springs, MS, Janet Puzz of Nashville, TN and Julie (Troy) Swanzy of San Jose del Cabo, Mexico; two sons, David (Jackie) Puzz and Glenn (Alecia) Puzz, both of Ocean Springs, MS; two brothers, Anthony Usey and Bob (Sandy) Usey, both of Gulfport, MS; eight grandchildren, Lyndsay Lynch of Woolmarket, MS, Jamie (Robert) Dunn of Pender, NE, Jeremy (Jennifer) Swanzy of Biloxi, MS, Alvin (Jillian) Vallo of Ocean Springs, MS, Andrew Puzz of Biloxi, MS, Christi (Justin) Dove of Gulfport, MS, Lacey Puzz of Ocean Springs, MS and Jordan (Jessica) Puzz of Oceanside, CA; and nine great-grandchildren, Audra O’Boyle of Woolmarket, MS, Karli, Haley, Addison and Lyla Swanzy of Vidrine, LA, Hunter Dunn of Pender, NE, Channing and Oliver Vallo of Ocean Springs, MS and Kinsley Black of Ocean Springs, MS.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Greenbriar Nursing Center on West Gay Road in D’Iberville and Dr. Paul Pavlov and his staff for the excellent medical care and friendship given to our mother. A special thank you goes to Kindred Hospice, especially Christy Thornhill and Lynn Scafidi, for providing our mother comfort, respect and dignity until her passing. And a very special thank you to Lyndsay Lynch, Shirley’s granddaughter, for the many pedicures and manicures.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Lemoyne Blvd. in D’Iberville, MS on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 11:00 am. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 am until mass time. Interment will follow at D’Iberville Memorial Park on Gorenflo Road, next to her husband, Andrew.

The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
