Susan "Sue" Margaret Harrison Sheehan

Susan Margaret Harrison Sheehan passed away on Sunday, April 12, one month short of her 68th birthday. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 13, 1947 to Samuel David and Maxine Harrison. She graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in 1965, attended Albion College, and graduated from the University of Michigan in 1969. After a brief stint as a school teacher she worked for Delta Airlines as a reservationist and flight attendant for ten years, when she decided to stay at home to raise her children. She lived in Chicago, Atlanta and New Orleans, where she met her husband, Pat Sheehan. In 1977, they married and bought a farm in Carrier, Mississippi, where her two sons Tim (7/4/78) and Sean (2/24/80) were born. In September of 1982 the family moved to Jackson, Mississippi and then to Ocean Springs in March of 1984. Sue and Pat renovated an 1880’s era home on Martin Avenue in the old part of Ocean Springs where they raised the boys. The house had only sustained minor damage in Hurricane Camille in 1969 so they decided to stay during Hurricane Katrina. Sue, Pat and Tim, along with the dogs (Annie and Sophie), swam out moments before the house was washed off its foundation. The Sheehans were active members of the Ocean Springs Yacht Club for 25 years where Sue organized regattas and taught her boys how to swim and sail. She was an accomplished water skier and racquet ball player, and once rode across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on a horse. The family made frequent weekend camping trips to Horn Island, and once spent a week on the island with Sue supervising the boys’ adventures while Pat commuted back and forth to his law practice in Biloxi. Sue loved to travel and traveled the world while with Delta Airlines working and using the travel perks for vacations, including many trips to Alaska where Pat was practicing law prior to their marriage. In 1985 Sue and Pat took the boys to Australia for a month, where they traveled and camped, with side camping excursions on Fiji and Moloka’i, Hawaii. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, David Harrison. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Patrick A. Sheehan, her sons, Timothy P. Sheehan of New Orleans, and Sean Michael Sheehan (Adrienne) of Portland, Oregon, her granddaughter, Sionainn Sheehan, age 2 months, her sister, Nancy Sergeant, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, nieces, Katie Valentine of Lake Orion, Michigan, Betsy Snow of Redwood City, California, and Sara Weinberger of Fishers, Indiana. There will be a memorial service at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Friday, April 17th at 3:00 p.m. with visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
