Mrs. Teresa Allemand Cates, 89, of Antioch Church Road in Jackson County, MS, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2015. Mrs. Cates was born in Port Arthur, TX on August 21, 1925, and grew up in Jennings, LA. She moved to Jackson County in 1945 where she worked as a paper tester at International Paper Company in Moss Point where she also met Mr. Cates there. She and Mr. Cates were married July 6, 1946 and moved to their residence on Antioch Church Road in 1948, where they raised their family. Mrs. Cates was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Adams Cates and her eldest daughter, Arlene Faye Cates.
Mrs. Cates is survived by her four remaining children and their spouses, Regina Martin (Don) of Jasper, GA, Reid Cates (Mary Jo) of Mobile, AL, Janice Speight (Jay) of Vancleave, and Timothy Cates (Tanya) of Vancleave; four grandchildren, Shannon Cates, Carrie Lepoma, Abby Powell, and Trace Cates; eight great-grandchildren, ten nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews.
The family gives thanks to Greenbriar Nursing Center for the care given to Mrs. Cates during her three-year stay, and also thanks Gentiva Hospice for their support.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral Services will be on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 10 a.m. all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. Burial will be at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
