Teresa Josephine Michaelis (Josie) age 79 of Ocean Springs died Saturday, October 27, 2012, in Ocean Springs after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Josie was born in 1933 in Leigh, England. She came to the United States in 1955 and has been a resident of Ocean Springs since 1961. She was a homemaker and had volunteered with the Red Cross and Headstart and was a Pink Lady at Ocean Springs Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Herbert Thompson, and daughter, Joleen Mary Thompson.
Survivors include her husband, John David Michaelis; sons: Michael Anthony Thompson (Mary) of Chesterfield, VA; John Charles Thompson (Cathy) of Biloxi; Patrick Francis Thompson (Gena) of Picayune; daughter: Joanne Marie Thompson of Ocean Springs. She had four grandchildren: Ryan Scott Thompson, Sarah Elizabeth Thompson, Shannon Kate Thompson, and Emma Carroll Thompson.
A memorial service will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs where friends may visit one hour before service time. Interment will be in Biloxi National Cemetery at a later date.
Josie’s family would like to express gratitude to Dr. William Striegel and Dr. James Clarkson, and the staffs at the Regional Cancer Center of Ocean Springs, Ocean Springs Hospital, and Hospice of Light for their loving support and care.
Josie was passionate about the struggles that soldiers and their families endure. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the Wounded Warriors Project (woundedwarriorproject.org).
