Tevis Marie Calton Barnes of Vancleave, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017.
We often wonder what the sky would be like without stars. Earlier this week, a light that had served the needs of every member of our large family quietly slipped away. Illuminating our paths for generations with universal, boundless and immeasurable love, Tevis Barnes slipped into the arms of a loving heavenly father. Those of us who were fortunate enough to live in the presence of this selfless caring soul, who, by example, taught us the joys of daily living, will forever harbor the benefit of her enduring grace.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Lida Calton; brother, Charles O. Calton; and sisters, Jimmie Mae Moore and Geneva Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Willie Elmond Barnes; daughters, Carol Williams (Calvin), Shirley Damonte, Donna Casey (Elmer), Betsy Barnes Martin (Keith); son, Terry Barnes (Amanda); 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 26 from 12 – 2pm, with a funeral service at 2pm, all at the Vancleave Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Community of Christ Church Cemetery.
The Vancleave Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
