Tom Dilworth IV of Long Beach passed away Tuesday December 11, 2012 in Richmond, VA. Mr. Dilworth was born July 17, 1928 in Dallas, TX, to the late Thomas Wheelock Dilworth and Evelyn Jay Dilworth.
Mr. Dilworth graduated high school in Houston, TX in 1947. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and trained as a fighter jet pilot. Following his service, he earned his B.A. and M.A. from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, graduating in 1958. Mr. Dilworth married the late Mildred Lee Turnipseed Dilworth in 1955 and remained devoted to her throughout 23 years of marriage. Mr. Dilworth was remarried in 1978 to the late Linda Gladys Dennis Dilworth.
A Long Beach resident since 1972, Mr. Dilworth was employed as a clinical psychologist for more than 40 years, first in Cleveland, OH, and then at the Gulf Coast Mental Health Center in Gulfport. He retired in 2004. Mr. Dilworth loved visiting family, bird-watching, landscaping, reading and following politics. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Gulfport.
Mr. Dilworth is survived by his two children, Amy Katharine Dilworth of Richmond, VA, and Thomas Kent Dilworth of Marietta, GA; his daughter-in-law, Sara Blankenship Dilworth; two grandchildren, Emma Catherine Dilworth and Griffin Thomas Dilworth; a sister, Judith Dilworth Crose, of Plano, TX; and nieces Katharine Welch and Emilie Welch of Farmers Branch, TX.
A service to celebrate Mr. Dilworth's life will be held on Wednesday December 19, 2012, at Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home in Gulfport at 1PM, preceded by visitation beginning at noon. Burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery in Pass Christian.
