d. April 9, 2014

Tony Joseph Radich

On this day 04/09/14 the old seaman made his last voyage sailing into the sunset crossing the great divide into the kingdom of heaven. Tony was born 09/14/26 on Point Caddy to Hungary-Austria Provice immigrants Capt. Petar Radich and Mary Guich Radich, who both preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his (3) brothers Nick (Razzoo), Andrew ((Amos) and his wife Edna Mae), Pete ((Blake) and his wife Emelda), and his (5) sisters Nicolena ((Nick) and her husband Willie), Etta (Yidia), Peggy and two infant sisters Victoria and Stella and sister-in-law Delores (Doe) Radich and nephews Jared Radich, Billy Strayham and Jimmy Strayham. Tony is survived by his brother John (Hack) Radich, nephews John M., Greg (Elisa), Marc, Tom (Suellen), Gerald, Pete Jr., and nieces Stella, Brenda, Cindy, Julie, Debbie and many more great nieces and nephews. He had no children of his own, but treated and loved many of his nieces and nephews as though they were his own. He was a great role model to many. Tony was born and raised on Point Cadet. He attended St. Michael (Sister School) through 8th grade. He was a very strong believer in his Catholic faith and practiced it at St. Michael’s Catholic Church for most of his years. He tried his hand at the seafood industry drudging for oysters after which he decided to enlist in the US Navy in 1943. Some of his 3-year sea duty was spent in the Pacific Theatre. Upon completion of his Navy enlistment Tony decided to travel to New York where he would try his hand at Hemphill Diesel Mechanic School. After a short period of time he realized this was not his calling and he was told about the Merchant Marines and returning to the sea. This would give him the opportunity to travel throughout the world where he visited many ports and countries. One trip that marked his memory, and he loved to tell about, was where they ported in South Africa and they completely unloaded a ship that was loaded with baklava, a very favorite of all of the “jugas” of the point!! After 35 years of service in the Merchant Marines he retired and returned to his home in Point Cadet to again be reunited with family and friends. Tony resided in the family home on Point Cadet until 2005 when Hurricane Katrina took the family home forcing him to relocate to West Biloxi. He has been a member the last 3 or 4 years of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. The family prefers that memorials be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society 10482 Lemoyne Blvd, D’Iberville, MS 39532 or St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Biloxi, MS 39530. A service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, where friends may call a hour before service time. Burial will be in Biloxi City Cemetery. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
