Virginia Maxine Parchman

Virginia “Maxine” Parchman of Ocean Springs, passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, surrounded by her loved ones following a short battle with leukemia. Maxine was born on January 10, 1944 in Yalobusha County, MS. She has been a resident of Ocean Springs since 1974 and was a 39 year member of First Baptist Church of Biloxi. Maxine was an OB tech at Biloxi Regional Medical Center for 33 years until her retirement in 2006. Her favorite pastimes were caring for her granddaughter, her flower gardens, sharing her flowers with friends and cooking for her family. Maxine was a wonderful Southern cook and enjoyed eating at the Hard Rock Casino buffet where she knew many of the servers and called them friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd C. and Margaret Bratton of Scoby, Ms; her sister, Doris Strider and brother-in-law Harold Strider of Grenada, Ms; niece and nephew Sandra Kay and Jimmy R. (Bubba) Bratton of Memphis, TN. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Hal M. Parchman III, daughter Letitia Roxanne Parchman and granddaughter, Mara Lillith Graves all of Ocean Springs. Mara, an eighth grade student at Ocean Springs Middle School, was Maxine’s pride and joy. She is also survived by her brother Jimmy (Nancy) Bratton of Memphis; nieces, Stacey (Charles) Reeves and Donna Fortner; nephew, Tommy Bratton; great-nieces: Kaitlyn Reeves and April Fortner; great-nephews Mathew Knight and Chris Malone; two brothers-in-law, Louis (Tammy) Parchman of Blytheville, Arkansas and Austin Parchman of Oxford, Ms. Maxine will be missed by Dude, her Jack Russell terrier, a rescue dog from the Humane Society of South Ms. Visitation will be on Friday, May 17, from 10 am until 12 noon, with a 12 noon Memorial Service, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the oncology and nursing staff on 3B at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport and to Maggie and Crystal of Hospice Compassus of Gulfport for their care and kindness during her illness and also to all her friends and neighbors during this time.
