Wallace G. Gurganus, 85, of Biloxi, MS, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013, in Biloxi. Wallace grew up in Bell Arthur, NC. He attended East Carolina University, North Carolina State and finally received his Bachelor's Degree in Math and Science from the University of Southern Mississippi. He returned to USM in 1974 to receive his second Bachelor's Degree in Education and later on earned a Master's Degree. Wallace joined the United States Navy in 1945 and served through March of 1953. He then entered the United States Air Force in March of 1953 and served through 1974. After 29 years of active duty he retired as a Senior Master Sargent (SMSGT). He then worked civil service at Keesler Air Force Base from 1974 to 1997, and retired as a GS 13. He had 10 years of dedicated support for the E3 AWACS. He originally moved to Biloxi in 1954 and after several stints of being stationed elsewhere in the military, he returned in 1968 to make Biloxi his permanent home. Wallace was an avid golfer and a member of Sunkist Country Club for 42 years. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. And he loved having everyone over for “Friday Night Dinner”. Wallace is survived by his sister Barbara Strickland (Glenn); 3 daughters: Pam Forchetti (Vance), Donna Jones (Melvin), Susan Blaine (David); 9 grandchildren: Lesley Hansford (Addison), Jason Jones (Tracy), Laura Marconi (Justin), David Blaine (Christen), Matthew Blaine (Jenna), Christy Barbee (Brandon), Vincent Forchetti, Michael Forchetti, Kirk Forchetti; and 11 great-grandchildren: Darcy Jones, Cruz Marconi, Blaine Barbee, Ashton Marconi, Sienna Marconi, Lucas Jones, Cade Blaine, Aurea Forchetti, Smith Barbee, Brooks Blaine, and Baby Hansford. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Rosa Gurganus; and his parents George and Ruth Gurganus. Wallace, more commonly known as “G”, was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be sadly missed and fondly remembered. Visitation is Thursday, March 14, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home Chapel, 2511 Pass Road, in Biloxi. Funeral services will be 9:00 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery with full military honors.
