Wayland Warren Moates, age 26, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2013 at his home in Biloxi, Mississippi. He was born on June 24, 1986 in Gulfport, Mississippi as the third child and only son to Barbara Dominguez Moates and the late Larry Dale Moates.
He is preceded in death by his father, Larry Dale Moates and his maternal grandparents, Juan and Epimenia Dominguez and paternal grandparents Fred and Edith Moates.
His survivors include his mother, Barbara Dominguez Moates; his daughter, Reese McKenzie Moates and her mother, Pheobie Messemore; two loving sisters, Melissa Ann Moates (Nathan Grace) and Jennifer Moates Nail (Jeremy); one nephew, Gavyn Williams; two nieces, Addyson Nail and Sophia Grace; and countless other aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and co-workers.
Wayland graduated from St. Martin High School in 2005 and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in 2007. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He worked as a bartender at IP Casino Resort and Spa and as a landscaper with his best friend and brother in law Jeremy Nail at Island Scapes Landscape and Irrigation Management, LLC. Wayland was a hard worker and during what very little free time he had, his favorite pass time was fishing. He loved to be on the water with his family or in his boat alone. He was quick to tell you that he was the best fisherman around, self-proclaimed of course like all good fisherman. He was the best son, father, brother, uncle, and friend to all that knew him. His spirit, charm wit, and kind heart will be missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his very close, small tight knit family. There is great comfort in knowing that Wayland is now held in the loving arms of our Lord and re-united with his father. He truly made the world a better place.
A memorial service will be held at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Friends may visit from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
