Wayne Chester Machado

Wayne Chester Machado, 76, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away peacefully in his home after a brief illness on Friday, October 9, 2015. The son of Evelyn and Chester Machado, Wayne was born in New Orleans where he spent a happy childhood playing in his 9th Ward neighborhoods and fishing in Lake Pontchartrain with his uncles and cousins. Wayne graduated from St. Aloysius High School and received his B.S. Degree from Southwestern Louisiana University and his M.S. Degree from Louisiana State University. He worked for many years as an Entomologist and General Manager for Mosquito Control Inc., a job he loved. Wayne was one who rejoiced in life, his beloved family, friends, fishing (especially for Speckled Trout), building and flying RC Airplanes and watching LSU and Saints football. A highlight of his year was his annual retreat at Manresa in Convent, LA. Most beautiful to him was first light on the marsh on a clear October morning. Wayne’s engaging personality, exuberant sense of humor, quick wit and incomparable laughter delighted those who knew him. His joyful “Wayne” smile will be foremost in the memories of those who loved him. Wayne was preceded in death by his eldest son, Troy Malone. He is remembered with deepest affection by his wife, Letitia Galbraith Machado; his sister, Valerie DePriest; as well as his children, Jennifer (Jon) Blankenship, Michael (Heather) Machado, Pamela Godbold, Mark Machado and Theron (Jamie) Malone. He is also remembered by his dear grandchildren, Ava and Alexa Blankenship, Scarlett and Annabelle Machado, Gracie and John Landry Godbold, Raley Malone and Miranda and Devon Malone. A special thanks to Jackie Blankenship and Southern Care Hospice Services who gently and expertly guided his family through Wayne’s last days. There will be a graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery in Ocean Springs on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 12:00 pm with a reception to follow at the home of the family. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
