Winona Wilson Holden, age 90, passed away at her home in Vancleave on November 8, 2012. “Ms. Toni” was born on June 24, 1922 in the Bonnie Chapel Community of Vancleave. She had been a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church since she and her beloved husband, Robert, settled in the Mt. Pleasant Community in 1944. She was a devoted wife and homemaker for the next 17 years. On November 3, 1961, she and her husband opened Robert Holden’s General Store which she owned and operated for the next 36 years. She also co-founded Holden Earthmoving and Construction Company in 1971. Ms. Toni was an avid lover of nature, enjoying her cows, birds and flowers daily.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Robert Vaughn Holden and her parents, Samuel Ernest and Sara Jane Wilson; three sisters, Juanita Wilson Ellis, Bernice Wilson Sweeney, and Patty Wilson Jones and her brother, Glenn Wilson.
She is survived by her son, Douglas Robert and his wife, Linda of Moss Point; her daughter, Beverly Holden Evans and her husband, Jerry of Vancleave; three grandsons, Scott Holden, Trey Evans and his wife, Melissa all of Vancleave and Chad Evans and his wife, Rachel of Daphne, AL; three great-grandchildren, Maison Ann, Holden Thomas and Harper Paige Evans.
The family would like to give a special thank you to her kind and devoted care givers, Rincey Waltman, Rhonda Nelson, Brenda Dickerson, Lavania Hammonds, Johnette Scott and Pam Murphy, Gloria Addison and Teresa Emswiler and to the caring staff of SAAD Hospice.
Funeral services will be on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Vancleave. Friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery.
