Adgie Pearl Thompson Course

On Monday, June 15, 2020 the Lord sent his angels to gather Mrs. Adgie Pearl Thompson Course and bring her to rest into His loving arms. Adgie was born in Amory, MS on October 6, 1948 to the late Pallie Mae Gilleylen-Nunn. She accepted Christ at an early age at St. Paul CME Church in Smithville, MS. She later moved to Biloxi, MS and became a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher and Vacation Bible School Teacher. She served on the Finance Committee, Pastoral Relations Committee, Board of Trustees, Nomination Committee, Prison Ministry (Angel Tree), United Methodist Women (Past President), Chairperson of Black History Program, Member of Council of Ministries, a member of three choirs and she was in charge of the bulletin board. Adgie was also a member of the Wesley Foundation and an alternate delegate for United Methodist Conference. She has received several awards and recognition such as Certificate of Appreciation from the Disabled American Veterans, American Heart Association, as well as numerous other awards. Adgie was a Lifetime Member of the NAACP and a member of the Mississippi Valley State University Alumni. Adgie graduated from West Amory High School in 1966. After graduation she attended Mississippi Valley State University where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She later received her Master’s Degree in Education from William Carey College in Hattiesburg, MS. She taught at Popps Ferry Elementary School for 35 years and retired in 2006. Adgie was a dedicated and committed servant of Christ, always going above and beyond when called upon. She was always humble in spirit, kind, friendly and caring. She was an excellent role model for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was beloved by her family. She helped to organize family reunions and gatherings. During her spare time, she enjoyed reading and cooking. She leaves to cherish her memory a dedicated husband of 50 years, Phillip Course. Her love will always be in the hearts of her son, Andre Course and her two grandchildren, Myles and Malcolm Course, who adored their “Nana”; her siblings, Linda Adkism of Tulsa, OK, Nolen Arnold (Carol) of Sulligent, AL, Teresia Marshall of Amory, MS, Eugene Terrell (Bessie) of Smithville, MS, Eunice Crump (Norris) of Tupleo, MS and Gretel Ruff of Oklahoma City, OK; several aunts and uncle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to extend a thank you to Dr. Belinda Alexander and to Dr. Olivia Hightower at Gulfport Memorial Hospital; and a special thank you to Jean Bankston for all your hard work and compassion. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Biloxi. Friends are invited to visit one-hour prior. Interment will follow in Southern Memorial Park. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue in Biloxi, is honored to serve this family.
