Albert Sidney Johnston III, age 89, of Ocean Springs passed away on Monday, September 17, 2018.
He was born in Biloxi on June 18, 1929 to Albert Sidney Johnston II and Shirley Margaret Hoffman Johnston. Mr. Johnston was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy where he was class valedictorian, St. Mary’s College where he was class valedictorian with a bachelor’s degree, and Catholic University where he graduated with Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. Mr. Johnston was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and also worked as an insurance adjuster, an attorney, sailboat rentals, real estate and investment, independent architect, and the fishing tackle industry. He was named Commodore of the Ocean Springs Yacht Club in 1975 and later served as honorary sailing master. He enjoyed time with his family and was keen to take them on outings that involved outdoors, camping, and sailing. Sailing was a lifelong passion and he shared that joy with everyone he could!!!
Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Patricia Kolkoski Johnston, Patricia Pattison Johnston, and Josephine Kelly Johnston; sons, James Paul Johnston and Timothy Joseph Johnston; brother, Noel Johnston; and sisters, Margaret Johnston Gicewicz and Camille Johnston Manella.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Anne Drummond Johnston; sons, Albert Sidney Johnston IV and Thomas Patrick Johnston; daughters, Ruth Marguerite Johnston, Julie Patrice Johnston, and Margaret Whitcomb; sisters, Virginia Vanapeldoorn and Shirley Crohan; brother, William Johnston; and many step-children, all of whom he loved dearly, along with other very special loved ones.
A Memorial mass will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 12:00 noon. Visitation one-hour prior to service. A private burial will be held at a later date. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
