Alton "Buddy" Edgar Byrd, Sr.

Alton "Buddy" Edgar Byrd, Sr., born 1933, died peacefully at age 85 on Sunday, July 29, 2018 surrounded by his family. He graduated from Bay High School in Panama City, FL where he was the captain of the football team and also played center-field for their baseball team. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, after being stationed in England. He met and married his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Barnett Byrd. After returning home with his bride to the United States, they gave birth to one son and four daughters. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Byrd; children, Valarie Byrd, Alton (Patricia) Byrd, Jr., Tina Byrd (Marty) Peterson, Lisa Byrd, and Bridgett Byrd (Timothy) Lett; sisters, Shirley Kendrick and Margie Dupree; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the Vancleave Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home at 5:00 p.m. Friends may visit one hour prior.
