Amanda Kathleen Schrantz

Amanda Kathleen Schrantz, age 39, of Gulfport died Wednesday, August 5, 2018 in Gulfport. Amanda was born September 17, 1978 in Gulfport. She was a graduate of Gulfport High School 1986 and a graduate of the University of Tennessee where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta and earned a Bachelors degree in Political Science. She worked as a paralegal for Abbott and Symmes Law Firm in New Orleans; as an office manager for Joel’s Catering; at Samaritian’s Purse in Ocean Springs after Hurricane Katrina as the administrator of the non-profit. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Irene and James H. Powell, Dr. Freeman Schrantz and Kathleen Von Gontard Henchel; an aunt, Frances Davenport and uncle, James H. Powell, Jr. She is survived by her parents, Janie Powell Schrantz and Michael B. Schrantz; a sister, Meredith Schrantz of Hattiesburg; two brothers, Christopher Schrantz of Gulfport and Nathan Schrantz (Lauren) of New Orleans; aunts, Nita Ford of Gulfport, Diane Goff of Saucier, Annette Kirpatrick (Bill) of Ocean Springs; uncles, Ladd Schrantz (Marcia) of Wiggins and Art Powell (Jannie) of Carmie, IL; nephew, Jonathan Schrantz; numerous cousins; and her pet dog, Greta “The Big Black Dog”. Amanda started dancing at the age of three with Cheryl Black and continued to dance at the same studio until she was a junior in high school. Sailing was a passion for Amanda and she was the happiest on the water with the wind in her hair. She sailed in numerous regattas from New Orleans to Pensacola and as far the British Virgin Islands. The family would like to thank Dr. Barot and staff at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport for their love, compassion and wonderful care given to Amanda. Amanda is greatly missed and will forever be remembered in the hearts of so many people that loved her. The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. where friends may visit one hour before the service. There will be a reception in the parish hall following the service. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.
