Anthony Nash "Rock" Frey

Anthony Nash “Rock” Frey was born in New Orleans, LA on March 13, 1928 and passed away in Biloxi on November 16, 2018 at 1:45am at Gulfport Memorial Hospital. He was a lifelong proud resident of Biloxi, growing up on the Point and residing later in life on Back Bay. Rock attended Dukate School and graduated from Biloxi High School in the Class of 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Frey and Virginia “Josephine” Vitrano Frey and his sister, Louise Frey Lehman. He is survived by his daughter, Kristi Frey-Keller of Biloxi and Collierville, TN and nieces, Virginia Lehman of Memphis, TN and Joan Meggitt of Tucson, AZ. He was honorably discharged from the US Army after serving in Korea. Anyone who knew Rock knew he was original and truly “one of a kind.” Talented musically, athletically and mechanically, he pursued a wide variety of interests in-depth and with passion. He was an accomplished jazz drummer for 50 years and played with some of the finest musicians on the Coast. Rock distinguished himself by setting records and winning many archery competitions, including the Mississippi Bare Bow Champion. He was good at automotive mechanics & never met an outboard motor he could not overhaul. He enjoyed deep sea fishing in the Gulf and especially loved fresh water bass fishing. A very good dancer, he & his partner once won a competition & graced the cover of the Marquee. In 1986, he reigned as King in the Krewe of Fantasia. As an animal lover, he donated to the Humane Society and often carried food in his truck to feed strays. Rock embraced his life with authenticity, a strong will, a fierce spirit, a strong life force and courage in the face of illness. He was very loved & will be deeply missed by his family. Services will be held at a later date. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
